Surnames: Herman, Evans, Durfee, Anderson, Hood, Richmond, Huskey Joseph C. "J.C." Herman, 81, a resident of Grants Pass (Oregon), died there on April 16, 2003 in a hospital. He was born October 15, 1921 in Antlers, Oklahoma to Frank S. and Maggie Herman. In 1946 he moved to Hood River (Oregon) where he began a long career with Pacific Power & Light, starting out as an apprentice lineman and then lineman. He married Zelda Evans on October 19, 1946. He lived in The Dalles from 1954 to 1966 where he worked as assistant superintendent. He also lived in Casper, Wyoming and Kalispell, Montana and moved from Montana to Grants Pass 27 years ago, He worked as superintendent in Grants Pass. He was a member of BPOE No. 1584 in Grants Pass, the Masonic Independence Rock Lodge No. 56 in Casper and American Legion Post No. 55 in Mosier (Oregon). He enjoyed golfing, hunting and watching sporting events. Survivors include his wife, Zelda, Grants Pass; a son, Russell Herman, Pendleton (Oregon); three daughters, Sherri Durfee, Stayton (Oregon); Toni Anderson and Jodi Hood, both of Grants Pass; two brothers, Gerald Herman, The Dalles and Lee Roy Herman, Mosier; two sisters, Neoma Richmond, Portland, and Elaine Huskey, Mosier; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Jay, Artle and Hugh. Visitation is today from 3 to 5 p.m. at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors. Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home and interment will be at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 21, at Mosier Cemetery. Memorials may be made to South Middle School Athletic Program, 550 W.
