Surnames: Montgomery Marcelle Sylvania Montgomery, 92, died Sunday, June 2, 2002 in Hood River (Oregon). She was born in Goldendale (Washington) on December 7, 1909, to Earle E. and Ethel M. Montgomery. She attended schools in Goldendale and after receiving a B.A. in education at Washington State University, taughts school in Napavine, Wilbur, Ritzville and Ellensburg (Washington) high schools. In 1945, after completing a course at Stanford University (California), she began another career in physical therapy. She spent six years in Los Angeles (California) at Orthopedic Hospital where she specialized in the treatment of cerebal palsy. She returned to the northwest in Eugene (Oregon), where she was employed by the Oregon Easter Seal Society working at Children's Hospital School. After many years as head therapist, she was chosen to operate a mobile therapy clinic throughout Oregon. She also traveled the world to attend and speak at conferences and workshops in physical therapy. In 1976, she retired and moved into the Goldendale home in which she was born. In 1978, she became president of the senior citizen organization board of directors. Their mission was to establish a senior center in Goldendale. Their goal was accomplished in June 1978 when they moved into their present location on Main Street. She leaves behind many friends and patients she helped. She loved music and became an early member of the Old Time Fiddlers in Goldendale. She learned to play the banjo by ear and also enjoyed photography and oil painting. A service of remembrance will be held on Tuesday, June 11, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Erdman Funeral Home. Interment will be in the family plot of Mt. View Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to a scholarship fund for needy female teaching students at Sterling Bank, 201 Main Street, Goldendale, Washington 98620.
