This is a spam-generating scam that involves an invitation to pick up an "E-Card" from FriendGreetings.com. The card is supposedly sent by a friend. Once you get to the web site you are invited to install an ActiveX control and by doing so you give permission for the application to send similar mail to all names in your Outlook address book. The program then begins generating a spate of spam mail, including porn. Virus and related discussions are off topic for this list, so please don't try to discuss this here. If you wish to discuss it somewhere, you can subscribe to RootsWeb virus discussion group by sending email to VIRUS-DISCUSSION-L-request@rootsweb.com . You also can learn more about it at these web sites: http://www.sophos.com/virusinfo/articles/greetings.html http://www.cnn.com/2002/TECH/ptech/10/28/security.net/index.html . Because this technically is not a virus, some anti-virus programs have chosen to not treat it as such, so don't count on your AV program to protect you. As always, though, it's a good time to make sure your anti-virus protection is up to date. Beth Johnston, List Admin bpjohnston@charter.net
