Surnames: Lovell, McCarter, Byrd, McCain, Fisher James Alvin "Al" Lovell II, 83, a former resident of Moro and a resident of Granby, Missouri, died in a hospital in Joplin, Missouri on October 10, 2002, after a short illness. He was born December 10, 1918, in Hood River to James Alvin and Gertrude Margaret (McCarter) Lovell. He lived much of his life in the Hood River (Oregon) area. During World War II he served in the Coast Guard on the U.S.S. Leonard Wood PA 12 in the South Pacific Theater. During his life he worked as a carpenter and building contractor and owned and operated several restaurants and also owned the Lovell Insurance Agency in Madras (Oregon). He belonged to the Hood River VFW Post and moved from Oregon to Granby in June 1980. He attended Granby Miracle Church. He married Elsie May Byrd on June 29, 1941, in Vancouver (Washington). He served a four-year term as the mayor of Moro (Oregon) in the mid 1970s. Survivors include his wife; three children and their spouses, Sharron McCain and husband, Jim, Ritchey, Missouri; James Alvin Lovell III and wife, Jerri Lynn, Wasco; and Cynthia Fisher, Granby; ten grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister and seven brothers. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Clark Funeral Home in Granby with Reverend Wayne Brust officiating and Reverend Richard Morris assisting.
