This is if the Braves, currently trailing St. Louis 1-0 in the National League Championship Series, get to the world series. Dayley, a left handed pitcher who graduated from The Dalles High School in 1977, was added to the Atlanta major league roster too late to be eligible for the playoffs, according to Steve Langston of the Braves' publicity department. 40 Years Ago, October 6, 1962 "This is tremendous" and with these words Lt. Captain A. Leppalauto of this city, general manager of the Inland Navigation Company, said this morning that this cargo comprises not only the first direct shipment of gasoline from the ocean to The Dalles, but is also the largest single shipment to arrive in this city at any one time. Leslie Thouvenel Jr., who joined the state police about one year since, was sent first from The Dalles to Astoria (Oregon), then to Baker (Oregon) and this week began duty on the Pendleton (Oregon) station, where he expects to remain permanently. Wiley. 100 Years Ago, October 6, 1902 This is nothing short of criminal carelessness to leave a gaping pitfall like the sewer ditches on a public highway without a danger signal, was proven by the accident which befell L.E. Crowe Saturday evening. Starting home from the store he proceeded to drive up Federal Street, for the moment forgetting the sewer ditch, when of a sudden his horse was precipitated into the ditch with the wheels on one side of the buggy in a like predicament, while he was thrown about ten feet on the debris ahead. Mr. Crowe was not seriously injured, the horse was somewhat cut and the buggy was badly demolished.
