Transcriber's Note: I've refrained from copying articles that do not include names of residents, some of the colloquial terms we'll have to guess at the meaning of, present day capitals used on certain words were not used then. Fraternity names and organizations I am not familiar with. Advertisements placed in the newspaper were coded for easy identification in later issues. Local Brevities continued Page Three Mr. L.E. Crowe went down to Hood River (Oregon) this morning and will return tomorrow. Robert Kelley, of Kingsley (Oregon), is in the city. He reports everything lovely in his locality. Mr. L.E. Crowe went to Hood River this morning to attend a meeting of the Hood River Townsite Company, of which he is president. Mr. Lowe, the engineer in charge of the city water works, has arrived and will superintend the construction of the work as it progresses. Dr William Lee, of High Prairie, who is an excellent veterinary surgeon, returned home this morning from Pendleton (Oregon) where he was called to attend to a valuable horse. Mr. Irwin, of Idaho, stopped off at the stock yards Tuesday with 300 head of beef cattle, to rest and feed them. They go to the American Cold Storage Meat Packing Co. of Portland. Charley Richmonds team became frightened while waiting for a train the other night and started to run away. They only got across the street, when they collided with a big lamp post that anchored them. No damage except breaking one of the irons on the end of the tongue, to which the breast straps are fastened. The sneak thief referred to elsewhere in this issue, has been getting in his work in good shape and is evidently desirous of starting a livery stable. Sunday night he, or some one else, stole a set of harness from Mr. Wakefield, another from George Miller and another from H.C. Neilsen. He also took an overcoat from Miller's place. A "Ghost Dancer Here". An Indian reported yesterday that Sunday an Indian arrived on the train from Dakota, that he had been wounded severly, and showed the Indians here his wounds. Claiming to have been killed and brought to life again by the Indian Messiah; that he has aroused considerable excitment among the Indians here, who are dancing, and that he is trying to instill the Messiah craze into them and get them to go to war with the whites. It is not probable the fellow, if he is here, could induce the Indians to take any stock in his statements, but a few such runners scattered among the Shoshones and Piutes south of us might cause serious trouble. From Sarah Winnemucca's statement, just such messengers have been sent among her people, and it may be possible that the story told by the Indian here is substantially true.
