English, 83 at, who died Monday, May 7, at the Hood River Care Center. Rev. John Ihel will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice. A more complete obituary will be published in next week’s Hood River News. ------------------------------ The Hood River News, Hood River, OR., May 16, 1990, page 2 Includes portrait HARRY ENGLISH Services were held on May 10 at the Anderson Funeral Home for Harry W. English, 83, of Hood River, who died May 7 at the Hood River Care Center. He was born in Nov. 7, 1906 at Odell to James and Olive Divers English. He began a trucking career by hauling fruit in the 1920’s as a teenager, and later hauling heavy equipment and explosives. He acquired the dealership for DuPont explosives about 1939 and continued in the business until his retirement. He married Alyce Grizzell Miller on May 16, 1942, and acquired a stepdaughter, Marilyn. His wife died on Jan. 23, 1983. He has been a member of the Hood River Elks Lodge 48 years. Surviving are his stepdaughter, Marilyn Nelson of Vancouver, Wash.; a step-granddaughter, Nanette Sears, and two step-grandsons, Eliot Nelson and David Nelson, all of Vancouver; three step great-grandchildren; a niece, Vanne Hale of Hood River and a nephew, James English of Portland. Rev. John Ihle officiated at his services, committal was at Idlewild Mausoleum. The family says memorials in his name can be made to the charity of choice. This was posted for reference only.
