Hood Milling Company of, and a resident of the middle valley for four years, passed away Friday after a week’s illness. Mr. Richards was taken with an acute attack of appendicitis on Aug. 5th. He was brought to the Cottage hospital and up to the middle of last week his symptoms indicated a speedy recovery. On Thursday his condition became suddenly worse and Dr. Coffey of Portland was called. An operation was performed, but too late to save the patient. The passing of Mr. Richards removed from the valley one of its highly respected, promising and enthusiastic citizens. One who had that quality of manhood and geniality of presence that not only made friends quickly, but kept them and called forth the most kindly regard of those who worked with him. In business relations he inspired confidence. Mr. Richards was born in Portland in October, 1880. He was one of a large family and is survived by his mother and four sisters, one of whom is Mrs. C.J. Calkins, of this city. Nine years ago Mr. Richards was married to Miss Frances Sarah Monk, who with one little boy Kenneth, live in the memory of a happy home circle all too soon broken. The funeral which was held in this city Sunday afternoon was attended by a large concourse of sorrowing friends, many of whom came long distances to be present. The services were conducted by Rev. J.R. Hargreaves. Burial was in Idlewild Cemetery. This was posted for reference only. I am not related to, nor am I researching this family.
