Surnames: TAFT, EVANS Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/nZB.2ACE/369 Message Board Post: The Hood River Glacier, Hood River, OR., August 17, 1910, page 2 MRS. L.E. TAFT After an illness of several weeks’ duration, Mrs. L.E. Taft, wife of the well known and highly esteemed business man of that name, died Thursday, August 11th, at the Cottage hospital. Mrs. Taft’s death was not altogether unexpected, although it was believed that she might recover and her many friends had strong hopes that she would do so. Mrs. Taft’s maiden name was Caroline Evans and she was born in Milwaukee, Wis., February 23, 1883. Her acquaintance with the Taft family was almost of lifelong duration and on Sept. 4, 1904, she was married to L.E. Taft, her friend since childhood, at the Tunnel City, Wis. After continuing to reside in Wisconsin for some time, Mrs. Taft, with her husband, came to Hood River, arriving here in December, 1906, and made her home here until the time of her death. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Taft is survived by a little son three years old and infant daughter three weeks old. She also leaves two sisters, one of whom resides in Erie, Pa., and the other in Detroit, Mich., and a brother whose home is in Milwaukee. The funeral of Mrs. Taft, which was held Saturday at the Baptist church, was very largely attended and the services were conducted by Rev. W.C. Gilmore. Interment was made in Idlewilde cemetery. In attendance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Taft of Tomah, Wis., the parents of Mrs. L.E. Taft. This was posted for reference only. I am not related to, nor am I researching this family.
