ENGLISH, OLDEST NATIVE, PASSES AT 85 Mrs. Olive Dolly English, before her death the oldest living pioneer in born in Hood River, died at Hanby’s Nursing home last Thursday at the age of 85. “Dolly” Divers was born on May 14, 1874, in Hood River, the daughter of pioneers Mr. and Mrs. John D. Divers. After her marriage to James English the couple homesteaded near Winans. Later they moved to Summit station near Odell where they lived for 25 years. After her husband’s death in the mid-20’s the family moved to town at Sixth and Sherman which had been her home since. She spent her life as a homemaker; was a member of the Pioneer association. Surviving Mrs. English are two sons, Harry W. and Jayen W., both of Hood River; two grand-daughters, Vanne V. Hale of Hood River and Marilyn Nelson of Vancouver; a grandson, James W. English, Hood River; and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday, March 28, at the Anderson Funeral home with Rev. James Edwards officiating. Interment was at Idlewilde cemetery.
