The Dalles Chronicle January 7, 2002 A Portland woman died on Saturday afternoon when the vehicle she was riding in slid broadside into the path of a pickup on Highway 35 at Milepost 64.29. Pronounced dead at the scene was Yvette Barhishindi Mubalama, 28. Oregon State Police said she was riding in a 1984 Toyota Tercel operated by Luvumbu Ndongala Hassan, 33, also of Portland. The Toyota was northbound when it skidded out of control on a curve and into the southbound lane, where it was hit by the 1998 Ford pickup operated by Darryl Brian Barton, 31, 1218 Tucker Road, Hood River. Hassan suffered head injuries in the crash and was taken to a Portland hospital by LifeFlight helicopter. Barton and his three passengers were all uninjured. Road conditions at the time of the accident, 12:25 p.m., were wet with patches of slush. The OSP said alcohol was not a factor in the crash. OSP troopers from The Dalles investigated the accident, assisted by OSP officers from Portland and Hood River county deputies.
