While going up Second street indulging in all kinds of oaths and forbidden language, Wood came driving by and ordered them to stop at once or be arrested. When he passed on one of the "smarties" was heard to say "I'd like to see him take me". And he saw it. Wheeling about the marshal grabbed him by the seat of his trousers and swung him onto the horse in front of him while the crowd hooted and follwed in his wake. After he had carried him two blocks amid his petitions for mercy Wood dropped him like a hot potato and he was shown.
