I did obtain an obit for Lola & Ernest Julian and am aware that they are buried in Idelwilde Cemetery. It would be wonderful if you could check the graves out for me, and let me know the inscriptions. Could you also take a picture of the stone(s) and send me a copy. I would certainly pay you for it/them. Lola is located in Block 8, Lot 15, Grave 7, Ernest is buried in Block 8, Lot 16, Grave 4. Could you also check to see if there are any other family members located around them? I am also looking for Steinbrook, and since theses graves do not seem right next to each other I wonder? I really appreciate this as I live 1500 miles away and a cemetery trip to this area is not planned until next year. Thank you for your help and kindness. If I can repay the favor let me know Beth Browning

I'm looking for anything on the family of George & Cynthia Williams. I know that they had at least 4 children born there ; John J. b. abt. 1886; Grace b. 1893-1894; Lillian b. I've hit a major brick wall trying to get past George & Cynthia Smith Williams. I do have the death date for Cynthia and the fact she was born in TN. but nothing else which is more than I have on George, for him all I have is his name period. History Mystery Photo [Text Only] Lots of guessers on the mill photo. According to the inscription on the photo, this was the Martin Wing sawmill and high flume that carried water for the overshot wheel powering the saw. Mill was located about five miles up Three Mile Creek west of Wamic village and was in operation several years in the mid-1880s. The Wings had 14 children, all of whom grew to adulthood. Wing was one of Wamics earliest homesteaders, probably in the 1860s. Wing Hill north of the church at Wamic is named after him. Final outcome of that contest for the four year port commissioner term will remain in doubt until the official abstract is made at the county clerks office. Looking Back: A Glimpse Through The Chronicles Files April 18, 2004 Compiled by Elroy King 20 Years Ago, April 18, 1984 Judson Baptist College this morning it had reached and probably exceed its $700,000 fund raising goal and is eagerly awaiting a decision on a $700,000 grant. A foundation board is meeting today on the grant application. Dr. Neil Roth, dean said Judsons biggest single push came last Sunday when churches in the northwest took special collections. Monday afternoon that total was $160,000. The Oregon Board of Medical Examiners is responsible for licensing some 1200 medical practitioners, hearing complaints raised by citizens and overseeing medical practice in general. Gen Jernstedt of Hood River [Oregon] is the first lay member to be elected to be board chairman and is also the first woman to be chairman. She was named chairman Saturday. Her husband, Ken, is in the state senate. 40 Years Ago, April 18, 1964 New officers were installed and reports heard on a year of unusual accomplishments in the welfare program at the annual dinner meeting Thursday night at the Hotel Dalles Blue Room of the Salvation Army. More than 40 persons, members of the advisory board and other friends of the Army, were present for the session at which Nat Wright was installed as chairman replacing Jack Howe, who opened the meeting. Other officers installed by Capt. E.L. (Jack) Grable, Portland, the Salvation Armys Divisional Youth Secretary were Ned Temple, vice chairman; Thelma Cook and Gordon Miller, who wer re-elected as secretary and treasurer. 60 Years Ago, April 18, 1944 The old Umatilla House stage, one of the pieces cherished by the Old Fort Dalles Historical Society, borrowed by the pageant of the christening of the boat, The Oregon Trail, at Vancouver [Washington] last fall, was returned to The Dalles several weeks ago, held at the port docks to be reconditioned and repaired, and is now again safely among the relics on the grounds of the historical building. Miss Jocelyn Fancher, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harlan P. Fancher of The Dalles, was chosen recently as a member of the Kwama, the service honorary organization for sophomore women at the University of Oregon. Miss Fancher is affliated with Gamma Phil Beta. 80 Years Ago, April 18, 1924 Details of alleged internal dissension at The Dalles High School, which resulted in the school board decision not to employ Burr E. Tatro, head of the commercial department, for another year, upon the advise of Superintendent Will E. Wiley, were brought out last night at a meeting between the school board and some 150 parents and interested parties, which for a time threatened to develop into a indignation meeting. Beginning a movement here to sell the Old Oregon Trail to the people of The Dalles, Walter Meacham, president of the Old Oregon Trail Association, appealed before the publicity committee of the Chamber of Commerce last night with George Brandenburg, state manager and publicity director of the Oregon State Motor Association. Miss Anne M. Lang was elected one of the vice-presidents general of the Daughters of the American Revolution at the national congress of the organization at Washington, D.C. yesterday by a vote of 1142 of a possible 1150. 100 Years Ago, April 18, 1904 Reverend Clarence H. Lake, the Episcopal minister from The Dalles, conducted services as [sic]the Occidental hotel parlor on Wednesday evening. This was probably Rev. Lakes farewell sermon in Antelope [Oregon], as he has accepted a call from the Roseburg [Oregon] church. To prove to the public her superior knowledge of occult science Del Valle, the clairvoyant medium, will give her celebrated life reading Tuesday and Wednesday for half price. Looking Back: A Glimpse Through The Chronicles Files May 23, 2004 20 Years Ago, May 23, 1984 The Wasco Rural Fire Protection District approved a $15,000 down payment on a mini-pumper for the department and gave Chief Otis Winchester a go ahead to proceed with plans for a training tower during the May meeting Monday night. Winchester said the construction of the training tower would require the approval of the county planning department. 40 Years Ago, May 23, 1964 Complete official primary returns, not including write-in votes, gave Henry Cabot Lodge 926 votes for president on the Republican ballot in Wasco County. Shoop of Bend [Oregon] was named vice chairman and Ersa Koch, McMinnville [Oregon] was elected secretary. Tuttle took part in such celebrated aerial attacks as those on Brunswick, Brandenburg and Gutersloh. 80 Years Ago, May 23, 1924 C.W. Boetticher, superintendent of city schools at Albany [Oregon], will be the next superintendent in The Dalles, it was decided at a meeting of the school board last night. The newly engaged official has been superintendent of schools at Albany for the last 13 years and is believed to be well qualified for the position. Building activity in The Dalles took another spurt this morning when it was announced that Hedges & Hull, local contractors, have been awarded the contract for the construction of a modern $30,000 bakery building on Third Street between Washington and Court for Ben Pundt of the Oregon bakery. 100 Years Ago, May 23, 1904 Perhaps the happiest day, certainly one of the most encouraging in the history of Zion Lutheran Church in The Dalles, was yesterday, when at the morning service a class of twelve received the rites of confirmation. They were Misses Hanna Schwabe, Julia Nickelsen, Esther Beck, Ellen Watt, Elizabeth Watt, Anna Patjen, Selma Cramer, Viola Strauss, Betha Blazer, Lena Rhodes, Mrs. Emma Nelson and Mrs. Van Sorenson. The busiest place in town these days is the scouring mill, where a full force of men are at work day and night. Already this season a million and a half pounds of wool have been shipped in from Carnell, Eltopia, Dayton and Page on the Northern Pacific and Heppner, Lexington, Ione, Arlington and Goldendale [Washington]. Mr. Russell informs us that he expects to handle 4,000,000 pounds this season. Hello list, I know that I've asked this before, but I have been unsuccessful finding obituaries for the following folks. Is there a library in Hood River that might do obituary look ups for a fee? I've also tried the Obit-L list, but the volunteer listed for Hood River has never answered my e-mails. Any suggestions?
