I found her in the 1930 Census living in Hood River and the Oregon Death Index. She is the sister of my great-great-grandmother, who lived in Pierce and Snohomish counties of Washington. According to the Oregon Death index her husband was a Harper Crapper that died before the 1930 Census. I am wondering if there is any connection to the Crappers you are looking for and if you could help with any information concerning their children, grandchildren, etc

The Dalles Chronicle January 5, 2003 Compiled by Elroy King 20 Years Ago, January 5, 1983 Ground searchers worked through the night and helicopters took to the air for a second day today in hopes of finding a twin-engine plane that went down in the Columbia River Gorge with five people aboard. Skamania County (Washington) Sheriff Bill Closner ordered an all night search in the event any of the passengers survived the Monday night crash. Strong signals from the aircraft's locator transmitter prompted searches to focus the search on an area north of Augsburger Mountain in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. The airplane was on a flight from Portland to Idaho Falls, Idaho. The Dalles Chamber of Commerce Tourism Development Committee will contract for an inventory of historic sites in the city. Similar studies elsewhere in the state have resulted in increased tourism and economic impact, Jean Krier, chairman of the committee told the city council Monday night. 40 Years Ago, January 5, 1963 Low bidder Friday for additional improvements at Celilo Park east of here on the Oregon Trail Highway was Barnhart and Platt, Gates, Oregon. the Portland District Corps of Engineers said today. The apparent low bid was $93,950. Government estimates for the work was $103.430. With only four seconds remaining, Bill Doolin took a pass in back court, dribbled toward the top of the key and unleashed a long archer for two points that won the game for Sherman over John Day (Oregon) Friday night 59-58. It was the opener Greater Oregon Game for the Huskies, who tonight hope to make it two in a row with a game at Burns (Oregon). 60 Years Ago, January 5, 1943 George P. Stadelman last night became the new mayor of The Dalles as successor to Norval H. Martin, with both men present at the mayor's desk in the city council chambers. W.L. Kirk took the same oath of office as successor to R.J. Brown, councilman from the First Ward. There were no other changes. Jack Miller, who became a member of The Dalles fire department three weeks ago, at 2:33 p.m. yesterday was one of the firemen called to extinguish a stovepipe fire at his own home at 318 W. 12th Street. When the firemen arrived it was found that Mrs. Miller had extinguished the flames without the firemen's assistance. The offer by Postmaster and Mrs. Mann of Dallesport (Washington) to supply The Dalles city airport with water at $4 per month from the wells on their premises, if the city will lay pipe now in hand from their place to the municipal administration building at the airport was accepted last night by the city council. 80 Years Ago, January 5, 1923 The total general levy in Wasco County for 1923 will be 24.10 mills according to data released this morning at the office of Assessor James A. This does not include the levies in districts in the county in which high schools are maintained such as 12; 29; 40; 46; 50; 52; 67; and 84. The first train came through about noon and it is expected it will be at least two days before the flood on the Northern Pacific lines will permit the regular travel over that line. Emery Davis, president of the cooperative. Negotiations for the purchase have been underway for several months, Davis revealed. There will be room for only 105 persons at the joint Lions-Kiwanis noon luncheon January 4 at which Captain Marion Carl, Oregon's war ace will speak. Captain Carl's appearance here will be under the auspices of the county war bond committee. 80 Years Ago, December 29, 1922 Moonshine at $50 a gallon is a little too expensive, even in these supposed strict prohibition days, is the opinion of George Melcher, who paid a fine of that amount this morning in the police court for having a gallon of the liquor in his possession. Melcher was arrested on First Street by Chief of Police Frank Heater and Traffic Officer Bud Crofton. He had only a pint on his person at the time but at the request of Heater, he took the officers to where the gallon was cached. The fine was imposed by City Recorder Frank French. Drs. V.L. and C.W. Eileen Kesti long time resident of Hood River was one of the exceptional women who came to the aid of our country in a time when it needed her the most. As a youth Kesti dreamed of flying, in 1940 she made her first solo flight. She continued her aviation studies and received her commercial rating in 1943 and then was eligible for the WASP (Women Air force Service Pilots) program. She graduated from the WASP training in 1943 and began serving in the Air Force Transport Command. During her WASP career she flew 27 types of aircraft and gained 752 hours of military flight time. Kesti was given a special assignment to go to Washington, D.C. and receive an indoctrination course on high-altitude flying. A few weeks later the 22 members of this indoctrination course were put on a train for the new base at Camp Davis, North Carolina. Once there she started flying liaison-type aircraft, such as Stinson. She flew tracking missions, giving the gunner trainees a target to track. Her status, like the other WASPs was civilian employee. A status she and many others played an important part in changing. Kesti was heavily involved in writing letter to the legislature in an effort to get Veteran status passed for WASP. In 1979 Kesti was given a military discharge, her hard work to change the legislation was not in vain. Eileen Kesti passed away last year (September 5, 2001), but her memory lives on in scrapbooks, photos and in the thoughts of the 685 WASPs still living. Surnames: Royce, Hooper, Barrios, Usener Anthony Lyle Royce passed from this life on November 4, 2002 in Cascade Locks, Oregon. He was 19 years of age. Services will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cascade Locks High School Gym followed by graveside services at Cascade Locks Cemetery. He was born in Portland, Oregon on April 4, 1983. Anthony is loved and missed by his family. He was a "Big Brother" in Cascade Locks, and mentored younger children of the city in many different ways. He assisted with the Food Bank, refereed basketball, softball and T-ball games and was easily recognizable in the community by the smile on his face. At different times of his life, Anthony was the Cascade Locks Middle School Student of the Month, the best soccer player on the Middle School Soccer Team, and easily the most naturally talented musician at Cascade Locks School. Even after his student career at the school had ended, he volunteered his personal time assisting Dick Dramer, the school music teacher, playing and "jamming" on his bass clarinet. When he wasn't doing that, he could usually be found "updating" his software. Anthony loved computers, and eventually became very good at computer repair. More than any of this, Anthony is remembered for the good he did on a very personal level towards his family and friends. His memory does not conjure impressions of lingering bitterness towards life. He will be remembered for his LOUD alarm clock, the way he tossed horseshoes, the way he said, "I am proud of you". He will always be remembered as an Encourager. He blest us with 19 years of life; that towards the end was filled with confidence and reassurance and peace. We love you Anthony, and we thank the Lord that we had you in our lives. He is survived by his father, Dale of Hood River, Oregon; his mother, Elodia of Cascade Locks, Oregon; his step mother, Glenda of Hood River, Oregon; his brother, Joel of LaGrande, Oregon; his sister, Rochelle of Cascade Locks, Oregon; two step brothers, Scott Hooper of Parkdale, Oregon and Brett Hooper of Hood River, Oregon and his god brother, Caesar Walton of Minnesota; his grandparents Joel and Dora Barrios of Napa, California and Ena Royce of Navarre Beach, Florida; uncles Ben Barrios of Napa, California, Barry Royce of Oklahoma and Randy Royce of Fairfax, Virginia; aunts Vickie Barrios, Karen Usener, Rebecca Royce and Robbie Royce and many cousins.
