You posted this following message= The Ancestry 1870 census index shows a Mary Cassady, 2, and Eveline Cassady, 1, in the household of Mary Delora, 45, Indian, b Wash Territory living in Portland. Five houses away is Eliza Cassady, 22, b Ireland. Whether there is a relationship, I don't know. Hope this helps. Daraleen I am very sorry for not responding about this to you. I am so dad blamed busy all the time I have a hard time keeping up sometimes and this message of yours kind of slipped through the cracks I think? :-] Yes I did see this in the census before. This happens to be the closest thing that I can find to my Mary Cassady Arnspiger that I have ever been able to find. This Mary is the right age and born in OR. What you noticed that I failed to notice however is there was an Eliza Cassady down the page a ways. That was very smart of you to see that. I feel bad that I did not catch that myself. I discovered that Mary Cassady Arnspiger remarried to a Charles M Lutz in Vanc, WA about a year and a half after her husband Miles Arnspiger died in 1916. I got the index entry to that and it gave Mary's parents names in it. It listed her parents as Jim Cassady and Elizabeth Emmerson. Elizabeth Emmerson Cassady was listed in that Vanc marriage record as born in Iowa! So, I think you have found Mary's mother since we all know that a common nickname for Elizabeth is Eliza, right? Now I can only make guesses as to why Mary, who apparently had a sister Eveline listed on the census with her, was living with this Celia DeLora and her mother was living somewhere else. And, why Mary's father is not listed. And, there are several people listed on this census page with an occupation as "Doubtful"!! What the world kind of occupation is "Doubtful" anyway?? I could assume that either Mary's father Jim died, or he left the family, since Eilza is by herself on the census and probably poor and trying to earn a living with no husband to support her. This Celia Delora was probably taking care of Eliza's kids to help Mary out in her hard time. Maybe I should search marriage indexes to see if I can find an Eliza Cassady getting remarried after 1870 and maybe I will find Mary's mother? Thank you for your thoughtful observation you made Daraleen. Nice going. Nathan
