Once again, the Computer SIG will have their bi-monthly meeting this coming Saturday, February 16th. As always we start at 9:30 and end at 11:30. The meeting's topic will be--"Saving your bacon: How to survive the death of your computer." If you haven't had a total computer crash, you must be new to the use of computers! Most people who have been using computers must realize that we are on an equivalent technological path as perhaps the Ford Model A was in the age of automobiles. (As good as it was mechanically, it did eventually break down rather quickly by today's standards.) For computers there are so many ways for failure to occur and no instant way to recovery. Prevention of loss of data must be a proactive endeavor. This meeting will hopefully address some of those issues and strategies Following the Computer SIG meeting, after a lunch break, the Master Genealogist Software Users Group will meet starting at Noon and going till 2 PM. Consistent with the Computer SIG topic of backup, that issues should carry over to the TMG meeting. Saving your project, preferences, and other export options. I have received an e-mail from Duncan Turner, a 'distance' GFO member and also a TMG SIG in his local area he wrote.. "I am a California member of GFO and will be in the area in February. I plan to attend the TMG and Computer group meetings on 16 Feb. Of possible interest to the TMG group is a new book just released by the Tri-Valley TMG group of the Livermore-Amador Genealogical Society. The book is "Source Templates for The Master Genealogist." It is available from the print-on-demand company Lulu.com If you search for "tmg" it is currently the first on the list. I will have the book to show the group if there is time. I am mainly interested in the activities of the group." This should be an interesting meeting. Roger Ostrom; coordinator Computer SIG, TMG-SUG Daphne Garrison; coordinator Computer SIG .
