    1. General Information about Newspaper Research
    2. I have found that I can go to my local library and request an inter library loan of newspapers from other libraries. I usually have an idea of the date I am interested in and I ask for a date range of from 1 to 2 months around that date. In Oregon the Main library in Multnomah County (Portland) has the Oregonian and the Oregon Journal back past 1900 (I believe). All other Oregon newspapers are available from the University of Oregon's Knights Library in Eugene Oregon. I have also gotten newspapers from Seattle, Oakland and Sacramento. The State of California also offers city directories available on micro film. Eugene

    3. The University of Oregon Knight Library is the location of the Oregon Newspaper microfilm project, and has the best collection of Oregon newspapers. For those close enough to visit, the microfilm is arranged alphabetically by city, so you don't have to know the name of the paper. AND they will interlibrary loan the microfilm. Ask your local library to request your interlibrary loan from University of Oregon Knight Library, Eugene, Oregon. Specify city (and state), and date range you are interested in.
