The president of the Genealogical Forum of Oregon, Jan Robinson, has asked me to chair the Education Committee. Because there is much needed work to be done, and quickly, I'm sending out my plea to the GFO membership! The Genealogical Forum of Oregon is looking for some new volunteers for the Education committee! We'd like to have you participate. The opportunities are many, but here are some specific items people work on. You can help with any or all. What you volunteer for depends totally on how much time you have to give, and where you'd like to help the GFO Education Committee! We appreciate any and all of our volunteers efforts. -What does the Education Committee do? We help create the seminars for the GFO's spring and fall programs. Do you want to help decide who that (or those) speakers will be? Your input would be welcome. -We put on mini classes! Do you have a lecture you'd like to give to help the GFO? Or ideas of lectures you think the GFO members would be interested in hearing? -We teach beginning genealogy! This class is based solely upon the students in your class. Some come in for a refresher, others to ask questions, and some come to learn how to do it all! Wouldn't you like to help these new members get a good understanding of genealogy! We need a new instructor! And, classes are only taught every other month, if anyone signs up for them. The education committee comes up with speakers for the monthly meetings! - Do you have ideas you'd share with this new group so that we can keep people interested and learning? We would sure like to hear from you! -Sometimes we also put on the Family History Fair or an Open House. Would you like to work on these things? It takes a lot of planning to pull these together. We'd welcome your contribution of time and effort! -And as a final thought, if you've considered doing genealogy professionally, this is a great place to learn your craft! You might be asking, "What's in it for me?" Well, we usually have a really good time! We talk about genealogical education! Every effort is made to find offerings for our membership that they will want to attend and participate in. Wouldn't you like to help guide the GFO educationally for the next year?
