    3. Hi Loretta, I do not know of a single person with the Haynes spelling connected to my tree. I have heard tell that some people think the Haines spelling was the original spelling and Haynes was a mispelled variation of the name and others seem to think the Haynes spelling was the original spelling. I don't know if anyone has ever proved one way or the other or ever will? There are several files on Ancestry.com about your Jacob Haynes, none of which say who Jacob's father was. That is too bad. He would have to be traced back quite a ways to see who else he is related to. My Haines tree traces through Qauker records all the way back to 1683 when my 9th Gr Grandfather came to America from England. I guess that makes me about as American as you can get witout being of Indian descent. The family settled in NJ and none of the family ever had the spelling with a Y in it. I see from files on the web that Jacob is buried in Pullman, WA and that he died in 1880. I did not see him on the 1880 census so I suspect he died right before that census? Did you ever do a search for an obit for him that MIGHT say who his father was? Or, a search for an Estate file and/or Will?
