    3. In 2 cases in the last week, I have NOT found people in the Ancestry census index for Oregon but DID find them at Heritage Quest without a problem. The last was the 1920 census for Linn Co. Have others had this problem? Just a warning to others. Check both. Clyde Senger

    3. Hi, I have found this to be true for all over the US and not just OR. The people who transcribed the censuses were not the same people for Ancestry.com as they were for Heritage Quest. I have found that some names were not spelled the same in one index by one transcriber as they were in another index by some other transcriber. The missing people in the index you are referring to are more then likely in the other index but not spelled the right, or same way. I suppose it is possible that some were indeed just plain missed by someone who was in a hurry or something transcribing the census? 3. Try again in a few months. You might be surprised. I have been. Ancestry does not tell us when they have completed downloading all pages in any particular state or county in any particular census year. I suppose that partial indexes are better than waiting until the entire state has been completed. I do wish they would somehow warn us. Also you will find the Heritage Quest web site a whole heck of a lot easier to read and use. I believe the buz word here is user friendly. Best of all is Heritage Quest is affordable to all of us in the Portland metro area with library cards in Washington Co. and Hood River which are free for the Multnomah Co library and I think Clackamas can get them also for free. It is a multi county cooperative agreement that was reach some time back. A wonderful service to all researchers. Good luck and happy hunting. Janice M.
