    3. With Labor Day just around the corner, summer is almost officially over. For those of you who are sorry to see it go, there is good news.there's a lot more to do at the GFO! DON'T MISS: Century of Action, 100 Years of Women's Voting in Oregon with special guest speaker Janice Dilg on September 8th. This program is FREE and open to everyone. Bring your friends!!! After 42 years and 5 unsuccessful votes, women in Oregon gained the right to vote November 5, 1912. Learn the history of this achievement and hear about some of the suffragists who were part of this important movement in Oregon's history. Janice Dilg is an independent historian from Portland, Oregon. She holds an MA in history from Portland State University and has been the Project Director for Century of Action: Oregon Women Vote, 1912-2012 since 2008. Since 2006, she has taught the Portland State University Senior Capstone, Monumental Women, a course that documents women's civic contributions to Portland. Her most recent public history projects include: the US District Court of Oregon, Historical Society Oral History Project, Pittock Mansion Society Oral History Project, and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard Gateway and Heritage Markers. NOW is the time to sign up for the upcoming National Archives and Records Administration Half-day Seminar (September 29th) with guest speaker Carol Buswell, Education Coordinator for the NARA in Seattle. Topics: Introduction to the National Archives, it's records, regions, affiliates and organization system and Using the online resources of the National Archives to find people, events, photographs, and more. Find more Information and registration forms at www.gfo.org. Because the library will be closed on September 3rd for Labor Day, FREE MONDAY is moved to September 10th. Spread the word that this is the day non-members can visit the GFO Library and research for free. Bring a friend and show them all the GFO has to offer. FREE CLASSES These classes are free to members, and to non-members who have paid the $7 day use fee to visit the library. September 6th Genealogy for Beginners - Attend this class on September 6th to learn the basics and prepare for the more in-depth introductory class on Saturday, September 22nd. September 13th Ancestry.com for Beginners - Learn the basics of searching on Ancestry.com. September 19th Using Picasa - Learn about this free photo organizing and editing program. A follow-up to the introduction class from the spring, but beginners will have time to get help downloading and getting started. September 20th Family Trees on Ancestry.com - Explore ways to make these online trees work for you, how to use them judiciously, and tools to help keep your families' information accurate. September 22nd Introduction to Genealogy - Take the next step to learning about methods, tools and resources to get your research off to a good start. September 27th Family Tree Maker 101 - Learn the basics of this program whether you already have it or are considering getting it.
