Hello GFO, I need your help. I'm researching Donation Land Claims and have run into something confusing to me. I'm not sure on what side of the Columbia River I should be looking for the paperwork on a couple DLCs. Based on the location of the two claims, my mind logically says I look at the Washington DLCs, even though the Authority says it is an Oregon-Donation Act. Is my thinking correct....do I look at Washington DLCs? The BLM website states the following regarding the Authority: September 27, 1850: Oregon-Donation Act (grant) (99 Stat. 496). Washington was a Territory in 1853 and a State in 1889. Using the Washington Atlas & Gazetteer, by DeLorme, I've been able to narrow down the two claim locations to the Camas, Washington area. Township 2N, Range 3E, Sections 23, 24, 25, 26. Date: January1866. Land Office: Olympia. Township 1N, Range 3E, Sections 11, 12, 13, 14. Date: August 1871. Land Office: Vancouver. (I have the names of the claim owners, Accession number and Document number for the above two claims.) The microfilm boxes at GFO only show land offices in Oregon. Has anyone seen the microfilm for the Washington DLCs at a repository in Vancouver, or maybe some place in Portland? If so, where? I don't want to have to drive a long distance to find and read the film. Searching the DLCs for Oregon has given me new information (names, dates and places), and I've been able to use other information in the claims as a needed source to verify other family information. Jan, This may not answer your question, but the GFO catalog shows we also hold Washington (Territory) donation land claim microfilms. Perhaps one of these will help. You will see both Olympia and Vancouver certificates.
