Sue, Many thanks for spearheading this wonderful task for the Genealogists in Oregon. I started to index Oregon later than most but, all of a sudden, it wasn't available any more. I then switched my indexing to Wisconsin, the state of my birth. It's one of those in need of a leader to get things done. Thanks again for your leadership for Oregon indexing for the FamilySearch team. Gerry Lenzen Gerald S. April 24, 2012 It finally happened. Oregon is at 100% in the 1940 indexing project. There are now fifteen states above 89% and Oregon joins Delaware and Colorado at 100%. Kansas was at 100%, but dropped back to 99%. As they go through the final process that sometimes happened. There are thirty-five states under 54%. Under 10% there are twenty states. I calculated last night that the entire census should be complete by the end of July based on these figures. Only the states under 89% are still available for downloading batches to process. The genealogy community is witnessing a great event, which brings together a large group of volunteers to benefit the future of our research.
Hi everyone! Just a reminder that the Computer Special Interest Group will be having our bi-monthly meeting this coming Saturday April 28th from 9:30 to 11:30 AM in the rear of the library. We will be continuing our series on introducing the most popular genealogy software programs available. This meeting topic will be on the Legacy software and will be presented by Allen Watson. After a lunch break, the Master Genealogist Software Users Group meeting will start at Noon and go til 2 PM. The program's publisher has released a new version (8.02) with many improvements. We will continue to "look under the hood" at some of them. We will also investigate using "filters" to split a Project. As always there will be a question and (hopefully) answer session as well. If anyone is has found new features that are helpful and would like to share that discovery I encourage you to attend and share. This should be another interesting meeting. I just tried and I was able to look at Clark County, Washington messages but I did not try to post anything. I do not see anything obvious that I am signed in. Perhaps just a temporary problem. The GFO has formed a committee to review the use of AV equipment as well as procedures for setting up meetings in the back of the library. The hope is to put procedures together in a notebook and do trainings as needed. Some of the ideas that have come up include creating a default arrangement of tables (already done); marking the floor to make this easier to follow; photos of how to arrange chairs, tables and projector for varying numbers of attendees; easy to follow directions for using the projector; trainings for interest group and committee representatives. There will be a meeting on Wednesday, April 18 at 9:00 am to begin this discussion. If you have ideas, concerns, have experienced problems with this area or have suggestions about how to proceed, I would welcome your input either at the meeting or by email. Thanks... Hi all, I didn't realize when I copied the e-mail about Daraleen WADE's passing that her full name was not in the body of the text on Tuesday. Sorry about that. Katie's e-mail is listed in this should any one wish to send condolences to the family. I have forwarded several to her already. Katie is making a book of these to share with all the family. For those that missed it or are wondering here it is again. > >Hello, this is Daraleen's Granddaughter Katie. I am very sorry to >be sending this news in a mass email. Hi Everyone, The GFO Writers' Forum will meet on Saturday, April 14th, from 11:45 until 1:45 p.m. We will discuss Tool 29 Workshop: "Foreshadow Dramatic Events and Powerful Conclusions" from Roy Peter Clark's Writing Tools: 50 Essential Strategies for Every Writer. And, of course, share our writing with each other. Feel free to bring you lunch, so you can stay to support the GFO Writing Contest winners at the monthly meeting at 2 p.m! And, to see what promises to be a very interesting presentation by Lisa Kagan, who is a featured contributor of My Words are Gonna Linger, The Art of Personal History will share her process for uncovering family history and creating an illustrated family history book. Lisa will offer tips for getting started in creating your own illustrated family history book. Using genealogical research as a foundation for their projects, participants will explore how to uncover hidden family treasures, conduct interviews, write and illustrate their book. Hope to see you there!! Peggy Peggy Baldwin, MLS Family Passages LLC www.family-passages.com 503-916-9410 Pacific Northwest & Oregon Trail

Looking this morning I believe the first four states will be finished this week. Oregon is now at 59%. There are fifteen available for indexing. My next stop is Illinois and they have just started. Twelve have less than 5%. Sue
I have found the 1940 Oregon census very easy to use even without the index. The various neighborhoods of Portland are clearly identified and even easy to read!
