    1. General Slocum Riverboat fire
    2. John Thomas
    3. Hello List, Today I learned of a book called Ship Ablaze by Edward T. O'Donnell. It is about the Riverboat the General Slocum that caught fire in the East River in New York on June 15, 1904. Over one thousand people from the "Little Germany" neighborhood lost their lives, and many more subsequently committed suicide because of the overwhelming lost. Since this is the first time I had heard of this tragedy I thought I would share it with fellow researchers. I am unaware of any of my ancestors living in New York, but for someone who did have ancestors in New York around 1904 this might be of interest to you. Below are a few websites that have information about the tragedy including lists of the dead. The bottom site contains photos. The Ancesty.com Historical Newspapers also has information about the General Slocum. I hope someone finds this information useful. Sincerely Sheri http://www.bklyn-genealogy-info.com/Newspaper/Slocum/SlocumDead.17.html http://www.bklyn-genealogy-info.com/Newspaper/Slocum/23.Slocum.html http://www.general-slocum.com/0acc.htm http://www.geocities.com/general_slocum/generalslocum.html http://www.general-slocum.com/0docs.htm

    3. Hi Dave Is this person saying that all they saw on the GFO website was about the Oregon resources at the Forum? It is true that we DO have a lot of information on Oregon as that is "our" State but the Forum has a lot more to offer researchers than just information and resources on Oregon. Please redirect your friend back to the website and to this page, in particular, where he/she can view the library catalog and get a feel for what they will find at the Forum. http://gfo.org/library/index.htm I do hope this person visits on Monday as we have a lot to offer them! 3. Hi Lorraine, I finally got a chance to stop by the Or Hist Soc on my way to work. They have the Corvallis newspapers on microfilm there. I looked and could not find an obit for Rosalind Wulzen in the Corvallis news sorry to say. Did you know that there are two stories from the 1940's about Rosalind in the Oregonian? One of them has a nice picture of her with the story. Nathan --- Lorraine <[email protected]> wrote: > I am looking for a obit for Rosalid Wulzen, > professor of Zoology at OSU > from 1928 - 1945. 3. I have gone one step further. I had gone thru tech support in February and stopped the attbi forward. After a while I started get a lot spam to my comcast domain. Now I screen all of my mail thru comcast before downloading to my inbox. Any spam messages I check and put in the report as spam file. It is an extra step but well worth the effort. I have gone from 5 or 6 a day to 2 or 3 a week. Hope this makes sense! I think that I just got rid of the source of all of my spam. I cancelled the forwarding of my attbi.com email that was supposed to continue until the end of Dec. http://faq.comcast.net/faq/answer.jsp?name=17799&cat=Email&subcategory=1 Since then I have received only one spam in my mailbox and one was trapped by the online Spam-snagger. That's two instead of 65-80 per day. Carole

    1. Re: [GFO] Dr. Edward Romig
    2. Sheri, Edward A. Romig was a veteran, but probably not of the Civil War (although that's where it is listed). He was a surgeon and a major in the 40th US Volunteer Infantry. He filed for a pension on May 2, 1921. His application was #1,451,254, and his certificate was #1,232,260. He filed in Oregon. You should order a copy of his pension application from the military. More likely to have been in the Spanish american war, he doesn't show up in the WW1 records on line.
