    1. October Monthly Meeting - AGAIN
    2. Gerald S. Lenzen
    3. Hello all, THIS TIME, I hope to include all the pertinent information about the subject meeting in one message. Pat Burling's computer seems to have transmitted some of it's bugs to my brain. The monthly membership meeting of the Genealogical Forum of Oregon will be held this coming Saturday, October 9, 2004, in the Forum Library. The reading area of the library will close at 1:45 PM for setup. The membership meeting will start promptly at 2:00 PM. The monthly lecture will follow the short business meeting. Gerry Lenzen will present American Land Records as the monthly lecture. This will include a general introduction plus several case studies. There are studies from states both east and west of the Ohio River. This river divides the type of records to be found in states on either side of the river. 1. Saturday, October 9 -- Illinois Interest Meeting
    2. Kristy Gravlin
    3. It's already time for another meeting of the Illinois Interest Group. We hope that you will be able to join us at the Forum's Higgins Room beginning at 9:30 a.m. and lasting until lunch time. The topic this month will be THE ILLINOIS STATE ARCHIVES LIBRARY with a report from someone who has just had the fun of being there. (And the joy of adding two generations too!) The speaker this month will be KRISTY, the long-lost Illinois researcher, who had both fun and success at the Archives just last week, will be hoping to see you and have a good "catch-up" session with you too. There are lots of materials available at the IL St. Archives and it was amazingly easy to use...once we found the building! It is tucked away cleverly. And it is a lovely old building that is filled with card files, microfilm, microfisch, some books, computers, and helpful staff. Heather, Hannah, and I had a good day there...come and hear all about it. Kristy and Doreen

The opening gala event hosted Washington State legislators, county officials, archivists from throughout the United States, as well as a delegation of regional archivists from as far away as China. Among the speakers at this prestigious event were Secretary of State Sam Reed and Lew Bellardo, Deputy Archivist of the United States. The Digital Archives Archival Management System was also brought on-line that day, with the electronic marriage records from Chelan, Snohomish and Spokane counties — as well as the Historic Census and Naturalization records database — web arrayed in an easy to user search interface (www.digitalarchives.wa.gov). 1. Rose City Cemetery
    2. Thanks to all of you who so kindly replied to my posting. I haven't done much cemetery hunting except in small cemeteries in the midwest where there is no office. I understand from being on genealogy e-mail lists for some time that even when there is an office, there might not be complete records or the staff may be less than cooperative. I'm glad that in the case of Rose City my fears seem groundless. Indeed I am in San Francisco but am planning a trip this fall specifically to visit all the graveyards, mausoleums and crematoriums that house my relatives. The person I'm looking for is Josephine Wagnon (I'm still not clear on her maiden name) and she's my only remaining brick wall for that generation. I'd sure like to ask her a few questions. Thanks again, Barbara

Use this link to do a search: http://www.theultimates.com/white/ I use this one all the time as it does 6 searches in all the white pages. Good luck. 3. --- [email protected] wrote: Hi Nathan, Did you see the message I posted to the list with your Cassady in the census? Daraleen Hi Daraleen, Yes I did. You posted this following message= The Ancestry 1870 census index shows a Mary Cassady, 2, and Eveline Cassady, 1, in the household of Mary Delora, 45, Indian, b Wash Territory living in Portland. Five houses away is Eliza Cassady, 22, b Ireland. Whether there is a relationship, I don't know. Hope this helps. Daraleen I am very sorry for not responding about this to you. I am so dad blamed busy all the time I have a hard time keeping up sometimes and this message of yours kind of slipped through the cracks I think? :-] Yes I did see this in the census before. This happens to be the closest thing that I can find to my Mary Cassady Arnspiger that I have ever been able to find. This Mary is the right age and born in OR. What you noticed that I failed to notice however is there was an Eliza Cassady down the page a ways. That was very smart of you to see that. I feel bad that I did not catch that myself. I discovered that Mary Cassady Arnspiger remarried to a Charles M Lutz in Vanc, WA about a year and a half after her husband Miles Arnspiger died in 1916. I got the index entry to that and it gave Mary's parents names in it. It listed her parents as Jim Cassady and Elizabeth Emmerson. Elizabeth Emmerson Cassady was listed in that Vanc marriage record as born in Iowa! So, I think you have found Mary's mother since we all know that a common nickname for Elizabeth is Eliza, right? Now I can only make guesses as to why Mary, who apparently had a sister Eveline listed on the census with her, was living with this Celia DeLora and her mother was living somewhere else. And, why Mary's father is not listed. And, there are several people listed on this census page with an occupation as "Doubtful"!! What the world kind of occupation is "Doubtful" anyway?? I could assume that either Mary's father Jim died, or he left the family, since Eilza is by herself on the census and probably poor and trying to earn a living with no husband to support her. This Celia Delora was probably taking care of Eliza's kids to help Mary out in her hard time. Maybe I should search marriage indexes to see if I can find an Eliza Cassady getting remarried after 1870 and maybe I will find Mary's mother? Thank you for your thoughtful observation you made Daraleen. Nice going. Nathan

    2. I have actually gone to the cemetery, it's quite large. If you go to the office they were very helpful and looked up the information for me. Sometimes they even have the obituary attached. Shirley W194

    3. Sam, Frank Bode is not in the OR Death Index but he is listed in the City of Portland death index. He died in 1913 in Portland. I am going to check the paper to see if he has an obit and see if it mentions anything about Gravel hill. 3. Hi Sam, Wow! This is pretty interesting. Who ever would have thunk it?! I can't believe you found this! This looks like you may really have something. I will look into this a bit closer. Thank you much.
