I just called the library and they told me that if the card isn't used in three years it is cancelled. Mim
I have not checked anything out from a Multnomah County library in over three years. Tonight, I used the Multnomah County database Heritage Quest successfully. Explain it? I can't. Go figure . . . You should know that they now delete/deactivate/cancel cards not used within ONE year. Our while family had our cards canceled just before they finished remodeling the Hillsdale library, and the librarian said that any card not used within the prior year gets canceled even if the neighborhood library is in small, temporary quarters while being rebuilt. I use Heritage Quest many times a day so was very surprised when my card number stopped working. I had to go into the library to have it updated. I assumed that every time I typed in my number, it was being logged. Wrong- it is just a way for me to access and they don't have any idea how many people access their online services. I was amazed. Some of the other states seem to work OK. If you erase OR on the state line and add a county name, it does come up with answers. Anyone know how and who to contact about the problem? Does anyone know what is going on with US GenWeb Archives? When I try it for Oregon, I get switched to RootsWeb Search Engine and get no hits, even with SMITH. Very frustrating. Clyde Senger

To All of Addie's friends at the Forum: After a couple of days in the hospital, I found her at home when I visited on Monday. She was active and glad to tell everyone that she is doing quite well. Oh, my! Thanks so much for letting us know. Addie Dyal was my mentor when I first started in genealogy almost 40 years ago. My husband was going to school in CA and over the many months Addie and I would spend hours on the phone while she instructed me in the fine art of genealogical researching. I still have my little note books of addresses for obtaining vital records and dozens of suggestions. I was so happy for her when she found her soul-mate Stanton Rickey. A match made in heaven! Addie was an integral part of the Oregon Genealogical Society in Eugene for years and gave so much of her time and knowledge. Now the folks in Salem and Arizona benefit from her. She has an encyclopedia-like mind. We wish her a speedy and complete recovery! Carole Hammond
Dear all, I just got a call from Dean Byrd tonight and Addie is in the Salem hospital. She is holding her own. She had a stroke about 11 am this morning how serious this is we don't yet know. She is able to talk and no paralysis seems to be present but it is to soon yet to know how she will do. Lets everyone that can send her a get well card and let her know we are all pulling for her. She has done so much for the genealogy community it is time we let her know we appreciate all she has done for us over the years. Janice Janice M. Home Town Locator: Community Profiles http://www.hometownlocator.com/ Don't know the county? Use the State/City complete list (long). Click on a state, then select the city. The State/County selection is on the lower right. Click on a state, then click on a county. Next click on the town/city you're looking for. There are some very interesting links on the town page, including: How far is it from (town) to....? This link will give you a rough idea of the distance between two towns within the U.S. For example, suppose you had ancestors in two different counties and you want to find out how close the two towns were. Fill in the town and state for the comparison. The results will be "as the crow flies' air miles," not driving miles, between the two.
