The trail which ran from Missouri to New Mexico was the Santa Fe Trail. From Santa Fe, another leg called the Spanish or Navaho Trail extended westward to San Diego. Other major trails were the Cumberland Road which reached from Baltimore to St. Louis. Branches of the Oregon-California Trail system, stretched from Missouri and from Nauvoo, Illinois to California and Oregon. The Mormon Trail connected the Oregon Trail with the Navaho Trail. Other trails and stage routes carried pioneers westward as well. The Chisholm Trail was a cattle drive trail which extended from Texas to Abilene, Kansas. There were other cattle trails, Western, Sedalia, Goodnight, etc. Use your search engine and put in pioneer trails, immigrant trails, cattle trails, etc. You'll find a ton of information about these and others. -Judy
