The following was on the Norcal Rootsweb List for San Benitio Co. Ca. marilyn The Free Lance, Hollister, CA; Oct. 11, 1901, p. 1: **Death of Mrs. E.L. BACON -- Mrs. Elizabeth L. BACON, one of the pioneer settlers in this county, died at her residence at Bear Valley, this county, last Thursday, at the ripe age of 74 years. Deceased settled in Bear Valley in 1866, years before this county was created out of Monterey county. A native of Illinois, in company with her first husband, Phillip SCHELL, she crossed the plains to Oregon in 1852, and after Mr. SCHELLs death, with her 3 little children, she moved to Siskiyou county. In 1855 she married M.A. BACON and the family moved to Alameda county, where they resided until 66. In 1890 Mr. BACON died. Deceased was regarded with deep affection and respect by all who knew her. The old settlers especially, will learn with keen regret, of her death, for, in the early days, her residence was known far and wide for its hospitality to the way farer. Deceased leaves a family of 3 sons (O.F., H.G., and B.F. BACON) and 3 daughters, Mrs. Henry MELINDEY, of Bear Valley, and Mrs. BURTON and Mrs. CHURCHILL, of Tulare county. The funeral took place last Saturday afternoon from her late residence in the valley, and the remains were interred in the Willow Creek cemetery. The funeral was largely attended.
