I'm researching the families of John B. McCARTY, and John W BRIEDWELL, both of which settled in Amity. John B.'s son Alexander Vance McCARTY (the pioneer preacher) was the first across in '46. The rest of the family came the next year, including James St Clair McCARTY, my great-grandfather. Alexander Vance and two of his brothers married with the Bounds and Lovelady families, which had previously intermarried, resulting in three brothers marrying three (genetic) sisters. The BRIEDWELLs came in '52, along with the in-laws, of whom the father-in-law, Jeremiah Buford died of cholera. The BRIEDWELL daughter, Sarah Margaret, was 6 months old at the beginning of the trek. She married James St Clair, and they lived in White Salmon, among other places.
