Ken and Carroll, There is an article in the May 19, 2000 The Dalles Chronicle written by Dan Spatz. I looked to see if it was listed on their website www.gorgenews.com but it is not. "The Legislature establised an Oregon militia, and some of the first members were posted to an abandoned Methodist mission compound in The Dalles in 1847-1848. The mission was located just east of the present-day tennis courts at The Dalles High School (200 East 10th Street) and south of the Methodist Church" according to historian Paula Kuttner, director of the Fort Dalles Museum (15th and Garrison Street). Paula would be a good resource to make inquiries of as she is very knowledgeable. Today the Fort Dalles Museum is celebrating a 150 years anniversary.
