Robert ELDER and wife Catherine, with 4 children arrived in Oregon--1850 Listed in their household 1850 census was one SAMUEL BECK age 16. Anyone know who he was? Living in the southern part of the state of Oregon---FLIPPIN, HAY(ES or S), COOK, MORRIS, SANDSBERG. We do not know for sure exactly how they arrived in Oregon, but it was early. Fort Hayes, south of Grants Pass was where the Hay family settled first.

Guess I signed up at the right time! I am a native of Newberg, Yamhill county, Oregon and am trying to find any proof that my Great Grandfather and family actually came to Oregon on the Oregon Trail. Their names are: James and Elizabeth Atkinson and family. Their older son, Daniel, was my Grandfather. They left Meigs County, Ohio, in 1883 and arrived in the Polk County area. A year or so later, James bought available Indian land in Tillamook county and began a dairy farm at Sand Lake. All the family knows about the trip is that they came on the Oregon trail, sometime in 1883-1884. Is there some way to verify that? Paul Drahn, Redmond, Oregon

Charlotte, I have a great deal of information on both Millers and Farwells and would be glad to exchange information with you. John Miller and Mary Ann Keene Miller were the parents of six children - four boys and two girls. The girls and their families remained in Indiana but the four boys and the parents all emigrated to Oregon. The Millers are my daughter-in-law's (and my grandchildren's) line so I have done quite a lot of research on them. Mimi Stang in Salem, Oregon
HI I am climbing family trees, going thru libraries, reading county records, and tramping thru cemeteries, in search of CHAMBERLAIN, BILIEU, NOLAN, BIBLE, ROWLAND & JOHNSON. I am wearing out shoe leather, using up a lot of lead in pencils and carrying around a very large eraser, if it were not for the invention of digital cameras it would cost me a mint for film. Sound familiar to you all I bet. teehee !!!! Good luck, Leona in Cowlitz County, Washington state.

There's lots of good OT information at <rootsweb.com/~orgenweb/>. Click on "Oregon Trail and Native Americans" then scroll down through all the information--lots there! Also an addition to my McCLURE and PARRISH families. Another 2nd gr grandfather, Jeremiah VANNOY and his 6 girls came from Missouri to Josephine Co., OR in 1864. He was a widower. That's all the information I have--it's from an obituary of one of his daughters. Route unknown--maybe Applegate Trail. Any one know of a train in 1864? He had been a long time resident of Pike Co., MO
