    1. RE: WALKER & SYKES to OR
    2. crystalwoman
    3. I am still hitting 'brick walls' in trying to find my husbands ggg grandftather's parents names. Are there lists of people who went West on OR Trail from NY? My husband's ggg grandfather Eli WALKER b.1790 Oneida Co., NY m. 12 Feb 1817 Ontario Co., NY to Ruth SOUTHERLAND. First son James is b.1822 NY, then Alpheous b.1827 Erie Co., PA, Henry, b.1831 PA, Charlotte, b.1832, Almira, b.1833(my husband's gg grandmother).... and there were 2 others b.enroute as they traveled to mid-west and then West...eventually arriving in OR 7 Oct 1850. I was wondering if you had come across any of these WALKER's as i am trying to find parents of Eli WALKER and still have little or no clue if they were in NY or MA or where before Oneida Co., NY. They came to Umpqua Valley having a patent of land in Roseburg 7 Oct, 1850. They remained in the area until they died. Eli (aka:Ely) WALKER d.1868 in Elkhead, Douglas Co., OR and Ruth WALKER d.11/14 Jan, 1869 Elkhead, Douglas Co., OR. They are both buried in Yoncalla Cem., Douglas Co., OR. Almira WALKER m.(3rd or 4th) 4 Mar 1863 to Millard F. SYKES. Millard was b.23 May 1827 Philadelphia PA and his parents were from Philadelphia, PA. SYKES seem to have come to OR ca.1860 or so(as i note by the marriage date.) I find them in Cottage Grove, Lane Co in 1880 Census and then they go to Fall River Valley CA ca.1882. 1. BROWN/PRINGLE
    2. Hello, In light of Ella Spooner's books and many others written about Tabitha Brown & her family there's probably not too much more to learn. But, I thought I'd join this list for a while. Tabitha Brown is my husband's third great grandmother---his branch of the family pronounces her name Ta bi' tha--accent on the second syllable. Other branches pronounce Tabitha in the more conventional manner. We had a grand time at the Brimfield (Mass.) Public Library several years ago. They have many of Clark Brown's original documents. We gave their copier quite a workout!!! Another trip took us to Wayside, MD, to visit Clark's last church. When the church floor was replaced during the 80's there was no evidence of the Rev.Clark Brown's burial beneath the altar area. We no longer go to the reunions at Pacific Univ.---there are rarely more than 20 people attending anymore. Seems it should be much more of an event. During the 80's there seemed to be many more families. If anyone has discovered any new info about Tabitha's life & family, Bruce would be very interested. We will be glad to help others with some questions or, at least, refer you to the many books that discuss Tabitha and her family. Regards, Bruce & Marla Brown Oregon

    1. GEDCOM's on WorldConnect Project
    2. cchouk
    3. Hi listers: For those of you who have or want to post your GEDCOM on the WWW I strongly suggest RootWeb's WorldConnect Project. To do that go to: http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igmuser.cgi Doing this also puts you on Ancestry.com. And it's FREE!! There are filters to block information about living persons, so fret not about that. You can even add photographs! See my GEDCOM for an example: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/~cchouk look up my name, and check those close to me. If you want to learn how to do that send me e-mail. By posting my GEDCOM on the WWW I have cousins crawling out of the woodwork almost daily! 3. Wilhoit Springs near Molalla was quite the resort in its heyday I understand. It is still open to the public to go and get water. A cousin of my mother-in-law still goes up there to get water. He is in his 90's. My husband's brother also gets it and likes it I guess. They also use it to make pancakes.
