    3. The old Indian chief sat in his reservation hut, smoking the ceremonial pipe, eyeing the two US government officials sent to interview him. "Chief Two Eagles," one official began, "you have observed the white man for many generations. You have seen his wars and his products. You have seen all his progress, and all his problems." The chief nodded. The official continued, "Considering recent events, in your opinion, where has the white man gone wrong? "The chief stared at the government officials for over a minute, and then calmly replied. "When white man found the land, Indians were running it. No taxes. No debt. Plenty buffalo, Plenty beaver. Women did most of the work. Medicine man free. Indian men hunted and fished all the time" The chief smiled, and added quietly, "White man dumb enough to think he could improve system like that."

    2. Hi, I want to thank everyone who has contacted me about my Thomas Musick/Lucy Boone ancestry. You've been a big help an I've made some progress. I posted the following to the Boone list, thought I'd post it here too... I was going through some of my grandfather's things, and found an old picture (postcard). Maybe someone will recognize these names... Postcard (picture of two boys) sent from Mrs. J.A. Boone in Marshfield Oregon, postmarked Oct 13, 1910 to my grandfather's cousin, Mary Levar in North Bend Oregon (Mary was daughter of Addie Musick Levar and granddaughter of Lucy Boone Musick). The sender of the postcard writes "Two dirty little boys from Marshfield" and someone (I presume Addie Musick, looks like her handwriting) writes below that ... Mark & Harold Boone. Anyone??? Carrie

    2. A few findings from my recent 1853 research. here in Portland area. and maybe i am last of a group like this to know this Oreg Hist Soc Libr. They have a large set of manuscript files about Oreg trail. Folders with 2 to 20 pages of info. Also a number of books/diaries in the stacks. both require OHS staff to get them. They have card files for these, chronological and alphabetical. OHS has OPAT index and books. I had never heard of OPAT (Oregon Pioneer Assoc Transactions) They quit about 1928 but a lot of Oregon Trail stuff in them OHS has 4 or 5 Oregon trail bibliographies, one has a list of many of the overlanders saying in which diary they can be found. These are out front on the shelves Oregon City Library. They have the OPAT books though no index, better hours and easier parking Oak Lodge Libr. They have several Oregon Trail diaries on the shelf.

    3. Well, this is interesting. My first cousin twice removed Frank Iles Jones married Anna Pearl Bilyou who died two months after giving birth to a son. Frank lived with his in laws Andrew Jackson Bilyou for a time after the death of his wife according to the census records with two children Gladys and Gayle(Gail)the son, not sure of the correct spelling have seen it three different ways. I have been trying to find the descendents of these two children. Have some leads but have not pursued them. I have not seen anyone on this list before researching this family so this was a nice surprise this morning. Have info on the Iles family if anyone is interested. Regards, Lorelee Iles Dendauw

    3. Hi listers: Now that my ISP is getting it's act together I can make use of the storage space I pay for. One of the first pages I published is: http://members.cox.net/cchouk/ . This is a menu page for most of my www pages. I've tested most of the links on all pages on the menu, but now and then somebody goes away, so let me know if you find a broken link. Each link should open in a new window; this is true for my other pages also. This will speed things up when you take a side trip. Just close or minimise those pages to return to my primary page. RootsWeb demanded that I remove the B Box from their server. Well it's back; on mine! The Bitch Box is not what you think it might be. It's simply me and others sounding off about life. There are no 4 letter words; except when required. Some of it is great reading! I will be adding more links to my menu page. So stay tuned. 3. Hello Rose; I most certainly remember you....Good to hear from you again after all these years. I know you have spent many years on the Bilyeu families of Oregon and I remember the journals you printed years ago called BILYEU BY YOU. I have been on the internet since last July and am enjoying it so much. At the end of 2001, I gave up publication of my newsletter (SEEKING 'N SEARCHING ANCESTORS) after 18 years......My husband and I have both had health problems for awhile (we're both diabetic), so I decided to spend more time researching my families which had fallen by the wayside. I have a website you might like to see. It is called OUT OF THE PAST and can be seen at the following address: http://members.tripod.com/devere8/ My weekly newspaper articles are online at this site. I have some stories on the site about the Bilyeu, Kinder, Biggers, and other families who left Miller County in the 1850s and went to Oregon Territory.........so good to hear from you again and please keep in touch. Best wishes from our Osage River country in the northern Ozarks of Missouri.
