    1. KIMSEY... KINNEY...RICHARDSON
    2. HELP IF YOU CAN!! Believe I saw previous mention on this list that someone was related to KIMSEY and/or KINNEY and/or RICHARDSON.... I have an allied family by last name of TULL, whose's 5th child: Beldon TULL was supposedly adopted by a man named Charles GANONG. Beldon m. Ida HOWE [?] and m. 2nd 1889/91 Mary Ellen KIMSEY/KINNEY RICHARDSON at Albany, Oregon. What information I have is obviously confusing and not correct. I would like to straighten this mess out..especially if someone out there can enlighten me. This Mary Ellen KIMSEY/KINNEY RICHARDSON was Postmaster at Barlow, Oregon for 21 years. My notes say, Mary Ellen b. June 5 186/62 near Silverton, OR d. Apr 7, 1948, Gladstone Convalescent Home, Gladstone, OR lived Barlow, Oregon for 65 years Daughter of John KIMSEY? Her brother, possibly James J. KINNEY [KIMSEY] b. 1853 She married 1-_________RICHARDSON SON: Orin[?] Chris[?] RICHARDSON m. Irene BONNIE Question: Would that be Irene BONNEY? I have a bit more on the GANONG family..etc. ============================================= ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! 1. Re: Foster Farm..Eagle Creek
    2. I have information about the Foster family... will have to dig it out for later.... From what I recall, he came to Oregon via Sandwich Islands... was it about 1839??? As far as being related to the 1845er Foster family, I don't think I have anything that would connect them. Since Philip Foster and my g-g-g grandfather Samuel K. Barlow joint ventured in the Barlow Road, I know a bit more about this Foster family. I have visited the Eagle Creek plaque and stone site mentioned below about 1982... Oregon for the Curious by Ralph Friedman describes Eagle Creek and the Foster Farm on p. 98-99, under heading, Historical Tour No. 9: Follow US Highway 26 to Sandy, 24 m. Turn R. or South onto O 211. This road follows the path of the Oregon Trailers who took the Barlow Cutoff. 2.2.m., on R., Sandy Ridge School, an old schoolhouse. Through the windows students can see Mt. Hood, horses and meadows. 3.5 m., on R, old Eagle Creek School--directly South of modern brick school. Note bell tower above entrance. 0.1 m., jct., 0 224. At jct., on L. a plaque on large boulder legends the site of Philip Foster's farm and business enterprise and the end of the extended Barlow Road. Foster's large, well-furnished log cabin was located about 50 yards back of marker. Thousands of emigrants ate at the Foster house--the first white dwelling the early pioneers saw in Oregon. They paid 50 cents for a dinner consisting of fresh beefsteak, boiled potatoes, cole slaw and hot biscuits, served with tea or coffee. The comers turned their stock into the Foster pasture, buying a "cut of hay" for their animals. The caravans also could purchase fruit grown in Foster's orchard, grain ground at his grist mill, and, starting in 1848, two years after he opened to Oregon Trail trade medicines, hardware and other supplies at his general store. From Eagle Creek the wagons forded the Clackamas River, to the West and continued on toward Oregon City and other parts of the Willamette Valley. Across the road leading to Estacada, and partially hidden by two trees, stand three rough-grained, weathered, stone steps, the remains of the general store Foster owned, and possibly the oldest remains of any store in Oregon. First house on R beyond stop sign on road leading to Oregon City is BURNETT HOUSE, built in 1860. Much of the house has been unaltered. Across the road and in front of a house built in 1887 by one of Foster's sons, stands oldest lilac bush in state. It was planted in 1844 from a stalk of purple lilac Mrs Philip Foster brought around the Horn. The lilacs have never failed to bloom. The bush is now more than 35 feet high, has a width greater than 40 ft. and in circumference measures more than 100 ft. Philip Foster and members of his family are buried in a private cemetery on a hill above the jct. Continue on 0 211. 5.4 miles: ESTACADA, etc. etc. etc. REFERENCE: Ralph Freidman, Oregon for the Curious, c. 1972 Pars Publishing Co., Portland, Caxton Printers, Caldwell Idaho 1974; my copy 4th printing, 3rd Rev. 2. Charlie
    3. Jesse HENDRICKS was born in Union Co., Pennsylvania in 1842 and joined the 2nd Colorado Infantry in Canon City, Colorado in December of 1862 This unit was combined with another infantry unit to become the 2nd Colorado Cavalry. He served his 3 years during the Civil War and was discharged in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas in September 1865. He and his brother David hunted buffalo for 3 years and then Jesse returned to Smithland, Iowa where he married Sarah TURMAN in 1868. They lived in Iowa, and later moved to Kansas. It was while living in Osborne Co., Kansas that he received a letter from his army buddy, Floyd FOWLER, saying that he was in Oregon and had bought some land in Columbia Co., and there was some land for sale right next to him so he should come out. Jesse had always wanted to go west but Sarah was reluctant to go with young children. Now their youngest was 5 years old, so they decided to go. They left in the spring of 1882 with two wagons so they wouldn't be crowded. They had an uneventful trip out and the one thing the children remember was that Mary had chiseled her initials into a large rock during a stop at Pioneer Rocks in Idaho. On arrival in the west, they lived first near Mount Coffin, in Cowlitz Co., Washington, but had bought property in the Carico Valley area of Oregon. Jesse's brother David had travelled west with them and he was camped on the property they had purchased. Sarah was now pregnant with their 4th child who was born the following January 21, in Mount Coffin. He was named Frederick, and 53 years later was to be my father . The family moved to their homestead in that spring of 1883. Jesse died in Yankton on May 28, 1903, 8 days after his brother David had died. Sarah died in Waldport, Oregon November 7, 1932 at the age of 83. Jesse, Sarah and David are all buried in the old cemetery in Yankton.

    1. The New Baby and Chief Joseph
    2. Cecil Houk
    3. The New Baby and Chief Joseph By Cecil Rulaford - My maternal grandfather (Nineveh Ford crossed the Oregon Trail in 1843) In 1859, Nineveh Ford had a fire which completely destroyed his tannery. So he gathered his cattle and horses and migrated to the Walla Walla Valley. He took a 160 acre homestead on the Walla Walla River, close to Freewater, Oregon. [Note that Milton and Freewater were seperate towns at this time.] Shortly after he got his family settled in a log cabin, the Indians began to make trouble not far away. Nineveh Ford saddled his horse and volunteered to help the soldiers quell the Indians. About the same time little Martha (my mother) was born. September 8, 1859. Three days later Chief Joseph, Chief of the Nez Perce tribe, came to the log cabin with sixteen of his warriors, all decked out in their war paint. The chief entered first, and said, "We want see white papoose". So they all came in single file, took a look, gave a grunt and walked out. Grandmother settled back in her bed with a sigh of relief. [Note: Martha Jane Ford was the first white girl born in the Walla Walla Valley.] more at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~cchouk/ccrulaford.htm -- Cecil Houk, ET1 USN Ret., AG6I San Diego CA 92154-3654 mailto:[email protected] ANDERSON-BLAKELY-EGGERS-FORD-HOUK-KIMSEY-MOE-RULAFORD-SIMPSON Searchable GEDCOM: http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=cchouk See also: http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=doughouk My Web page menu: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~cchouk/rulaford/menu.htm

    3. PLEASE, can anyone tell me where to find lists of names of people who moved west to California about 1860? I am trying to tie John BURR in McHenry County IL in 1859 to my grandfather John BURR who was married in northern California in 1862. If I find his name on a list, it will prove that these two are the same person. Thank you Donald Burr

    3. Ross, thanks to you and Ellen Craven fro your answers. My first cousin inquired about the present day Foster Farm, and they didnt think there was any connection, but invited us to come to their farm and visit. I wondered that myself, and thought maybe there could be after all, If I really tried to find something out. I had thought that since the original Foster place was there, perhaps they were cousins. This will be interesting to search out. Thanks for your boosts along the Oregon Trail!!!!! Carol Broom -----Original Message----- From: Ross A.
