Hi, The Family History Center has the Ill. History of Oregon by Hines, and they have very reasonable prices (I think $3.50), in case anyone can't get to the Washington libraries. Peggy
Bonjour, I'm sending along the list of repositories for the Hines book, hoping that I can find a couple of folks who live close by one and would be willing to share the task of checking the volumes for me.(I understand the first volume is a history, and the others are collections of biographical aketches) This list was kindly sent to me by Adrien Taylor at Boise State. - Subject: RE: ILL. Bonjour, I had good luck finding the other OR History books on my list I sent out recently, thanks to some wonderful folks who responded. The one that seems to be very scarce is ILL. HISTORY OF OR, by Hines (1893). I know there is a set at the U of WA at Pullman. There might be one at the U of ID at Boise, if I read a communication from Adrien Taylor out there correctly. I wonder if there is anyone who lives near enough to there to check it out for me. Or maybe, there is another set out there somewhere. Thanks.... Bonjour, Sorry to use the List for this, but I can't seem to get hold of Tom Laidlaw,Anne Billesbach, nor Lynn Sullivan and hope they see this. I think a worm (W32) caused their messages to me yesterday to get scrubbed. My "reply" to them get bounced back as undeliverable-unknown address. I would like to have them re-send the messages or contact me by overland mail.... Thanks for your understanding... In May of 1852, after gathering up the requisite supplies together, James Marshall and his wife Ruth Morgan loaded up the prairie schooners and hitched up the oxen. Then they began the journey of their life. Heading west with them was Ruth Morgans' brother's Rawley and his family, Peter and James and their uncle Jonathan Morgan. Rawley's wife died just before leaving for Oregon Along the Platte River in Nebraska, tragedy Struck the family. Rawley and one of his sons with wife and child died of cholera. When the train reached Round Valley on the Umatilla River, James was splitting wood and cut his hand. James past away October 4, 1852, from blood poisoning. Ruth wrapped him up in their feather bed and buried him somewhere near Pendelton Oregon.

Hi list: I have so many Oregon Trail Families I made a web page: http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~cchouk/oregon_trail/ The time period is 1843-1868, and includes many families. The books you listed, Centennial History of Oregon 1811-1912, are listed for sale on Bibliofind. One set is $75, another is $100. Just use a search engine (I use Google) and enter Bibliofind. Then ask for the titles you are interested in. Linda
Albert, I believe that Linn Co. Gen. Soc. at the library at Lebannon has all four volumes of CENTENNIAL HISTORY OF OREGON, 1811-1912, 4 vols., S. J. Clark Co.,Chicago (1912). That is the good news, the bad news is that since it is in such bad condition, they are refusing to make copies of any pages. However, perhaps you can get a researcher there to look up for you. Here is the email address for Lebannon Gen Soc. which is located at the Lebannon library. http://www.usgennet.org/usa/or/town/lebanon/index.html Good luck, Judy __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? http://www.new-jerusalem.com/genladynew/ this looks like it can be a real good site, but we all need to beef it up with our surname listings, folks, and whats so nice about the site is that it is definately user friendly for the search and add surnames... i reccommend it , and i am amatuer enough that if i can see the merits of this site i am sure others will too....
