    3. The first train started across in 1836. I have ancestors who were coming over via wagon in 1895, though that's pretty late to be considered an Oregon Trail date. Encyclopedia Britannica puts the beginning at ca. 1850, which is about right. Joe Lane the first Territorial Governor of Oregon showed up in 1849. Still looking for an ending date. :) Peggy -----Original Message----- From: Barbara Cady via OREGON-TRAIL [mailto:oregon-trail@rootsweb.com] Sent: Sunday, April 7, 2019 11:36 AM To: oregon-trail@rootsweb.com Cc: Barbara Cady Subject: [OREGON-TRAIL] Question about length of time of the Oregon Trail Was the Trail considered to begin in 1843? 3. Still here and do enjoy what is published -- THANKS! Do have one question for everyone -- anyone know of a Civil War Veteran, CSA, he was from Virginia - left Nebraska for the Ephrata area of Washington state maybe with a group of Dunkards that were coming west for the good cheap farm land in Eastern Washington. Alexander P McMullen is the veteran - I don't know if he died in route? changed his mind and left his family for some other reason. Wife, Susan, is buried in Sunnyslope, Washington (near Wenatchee) - I would sure like to know anything about Alexander after he leaves Nebraska. Thanks Fred Pflugrath Wenatchee, WA fpflug@nwi.net
