Bob Carbis, a radio advertising manager here, approached the city council Monday night. He asked for a common date for the council and the Wasco Rural Board of directors to meet on the issue. 40 Years Ago, January 20, 1962 The Dalles Knights of Columbus Council No. 1598 celebrated its Golden Jubilee last Sunday, exactly 50 years after receiving its charter. His Excellency Most Revered Francis P. Leipzig, Bishop of Baker (Oregon), celebrated Pontifical Low Mass and was the main speaker at the Sunday evening banquet. Honored at the evening banquet were Louis J. Kelly and Edward T. Morran, charter members of the Council still living in The Dalles. Mr. and Mrs. Kelly were also celebrating their golden wedding anniversary. 60 Years Ago, January 20, 1942 A special audit and investigation of the books and records of the county clerk's office will be launched immediately under supervision of the Oregon Division of Audits it was reavealed in the circuit court this morning when the Wasco County grand jury submitted its initial report on an apparent shorts of clerk's funds, to Judge Fred Wilson. The audit had been authorized by the Wasco County court, the report disclosed, and will be carried on as rapidly as possible. With L.E. Martin of The Dalles city police acting as instructor, the subject "War Gasses and their First Aid Treatment" will be discussed in two local first aid classes, Arthur T. Bode, Red Cross first aid chairman announced here this morning. The first class will be taught by Miss Frances Kovtynovich in city hall tonight and the second taught by Wiley McDaniel will be at the courhouse on Friday. 80 Years Ago, January 20, 1922 With practically all of the odds and ends of construction finished and out of the way, the date for completion of the municipal auditorium now depends on a large extent upon weather conditions, according to C.V. Anderson, superintendent in charge of construction for Robert Paysee, contractor. D.J. Butcher returned yesterday from Fossil (Oregon) and Mitchell (Oregon) where he attended business in the interest of the telephone company. He reported 19 degrees below zero as the minimum temperatures at Fossil and that a feed shortage is feared by the stockmen of that section if the severe winter weather continues much longer. 100 Years Ago, January 20, 1902 Marshall Wood has a "horse" on some one, and if they don't come and claim their property and release the same from the pound, they'll be minus a bay saddle horse, which will be sold in five days. He took it up this morning, the animal having been wandering about the streets for several days. At present there are five cases of diphtheria in the city - one at the Prinz', one at the Cosmopolitan (hotel) and three in a family by the name of Atkins camped in the pines. The latter is a very sad case, one child having died Saturday and the family is in destitute circumstances, having been compelled to apply to the ...... Linda, I went through the GNIS (USGS site) and used the Terra Server by MSN The name listed by GNIS is simply Columbia Cemetery, which is printed on the map. Now where is Columbia Pioneer Cemetery (is it really the same one as Columbia Masonic Cemetery??)
