    1. [OREGON] McDANIEL, Delilah - short memorial 1937
    2. >From the 1938 Jefferson High School Yearbook, page 21 Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon Short memorial for: Miss Delilah McDaniel Died December 4, 1937 Miss Delilah McDaniel died Saturday morning, December 4, 1937, at St. Vincents Hospital after a protracted illness. We at Jefferson feel deeply the loss that comes to us when one of the faculty is taken away. Miss McDaniel is the fifth member of the faculty to have passed away since the school was established. For the past seventeen years, Miss McDaniel was a valued member of the Jefferson High School faculty, teaching Biology and Botany. During that time she endeared herself to all those who were fortunate in being members of her classes. She was a true friend, a loyal co-worker, a sympathetic and understanding teacher, whose faith in boys and girls was very real and sincere. In the life of Jefferson, she has taken a very active part, especially as chairman of the committee for the selection of the candidates for the Rose Festival princess. She was a woman of much natural charm and graciousness. She loved life in all of its wholesome aspects. She loved the great outdoors -- the beauty of the woods, the flowers, and the streams -- the radiance of the sunrise and the glow of the sunset. Through it all, she saw the hand of the Infinite. From it her spiritual courage grew in stature -- a courage that was beautiful to witness, a courage that was truly sublime. In the days that are to come, we shall miss her but she will live, and her influence will continue in the hearts of those who truly knew her. May the memory of our friend be an inspiration to each of us to meet our problems with the same high courage that she met hers. Excerpt from an address by Hopkin Jenkins before the student body of the school.
