    3. There were several other trails that took settlers into the Willamette and Umpqua Valleys. Here are three that I know of. There may have been others. They are The Appligate [as you mentioned], The Elliott Cut Off; and The Free Immigrant Road. If you contact the Genealogical Society of Cottage Grove, Or., or the Roseburg Historical Center in Roseburg, they may be able to help further. I could probably answer most questions concerning the Elliott and Free Immigrant trails. Hope this helps.
