Hi I also have a computer help list , I dont advertise it much I also use a CD writer very much and will be willing to help you. my computer list is open forum on all topics of computer problems and people who want to help. Ask me in private for any one interested. As for CD-R ( all ) files saved to a ((locked CD )) this means a CD made to be used in other CD ROM's will be automatically made READ ONLY because a CD-R is ( read only. Also a CD-R can be made as RW in a manor such as to format it as to be used like a hard drive then you can edit your files this way , and also removed them - how ever - on CD-R editing them means a resave to the CD and it cuts space, you cant see it with out a special utility , but its not a thing to worry about , you can also delete under the free style format but this also * dont* give you any space back, it just removes access to the file. CD-RW can be formatted in 2 ways also 1 as CD-RW normal - this takes about 50 minutes+ 2 as CD-RW quick this takes about 2 minutes and will not show the free space when you view it with Windows Explorer , but is very fast in this mode and can be read and write as same with the RW full format. All files on the CD-RW and the Floppy version of the CD-R will not be read only All files on the CD-R will be ( read only ) and when you move them back to your Hard drive you will need to right click and choose properties and uncheck the * read only* attributes , you can do this also by highlighting ALL the files in the folder on the right side of the windows explorer screen and right click while they are all highlighted then uncheck the read only and they will all be changed at once. Answer to ( I want to removed files from my computer ; is this possible (YES) use CD-RW . I even have programs installed I run from some. Beware CD-RW do have a short life on mass use of rewriting, there is a limit to their life , I thinks it mentioned someplace . Need any help I am here . wb@wvi.com Dan list manager ----- Original Message ----- From: <Jacroing67@aol.com> To: <OREGON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, January 07, 2002 6:23 PM Subject: [OREGON] HELP please..... > Good evening, > > Recently purchased a new computer and it has a CD writer.......so today I > thought that I would copy my files on to a CD......everything is great, > except.......in my little world the perfect thing would be that I can add to > the disc instead of keeping everything on the computer.
