We’ve pulled back to show the caption accompanying the photo, which appeared on an insert in a box of Mascot brand cigars, manufactured by “B. Ulrich, The Dalles, Oregon.” It tells the story of Tip, the dog that accompanied local soldiers in the Spanish-American War of 1898.
