Ken Tessendorff sent a query in mid-December, with a list of names he was interested in, including Louisa J. Carlton, who died in 1910 in Jackson County. I tried to email him directly but my message was returned. I'm sending this in case he's on the list with a different email address, or in case someone on the list knows how to reach him. Here's some info for him, (sorry it's two months later). Ken, I saw your query back in December. I didn't have time to look, then, but recently was at the Rogue Valley Genealogical Society in Phoenix, Oregon, (near Medford) so I looked for Louisa J. Carlton and I found her burial. According to the Rogue Valley Genealogical Society Cemetery Index she was born 30 April 1886, died 7 Nov. 1910, and is buried in the Nichols Family Plot. I looked in the published book of Jackson County, Oregon, Cemeteries, vol. 1, and found out that there were two Carltons buried in the Nichols Family Plot. Unfortunately there is a discrepancy in the information about the second Carlton: Carlton, Murty age 3 year, 0 months, 29 days The book says he died 17 Sep 1882 The Cemetery Index says he died 17 Nov. 1910. Also in the Nichols Family Plot are 8 Nichols, 1 Rader, and 1 Severance. The cemetery is on private property east of Eagle Point. It may be possible to obtain permission from the owner (the St. Laurent Land and Cattle Co.) to go on the private land. If that is possible, would you be interested in having me take digital photographs of the gravestones (if there are any), and send them to you as jpg's? Also, are you interested in additional information I might be able to find about Louisa Carlton? I'm not related -- I just have access to local genealogical information, and I like to help people who are distant. Anne Billeter billeter@entwood.com Medford, Oregon
Hi Anne, I really appreciate your taking the time to look up the information on Louisa Carlton. Unfortunately, she is not the person I thought she was. I was led to believe that she was Louisa Cummins, born in California about 1860 but this information does not seem to be correct. I guess there is no reason to pursue this person any further. I am in the process of trying to get more information on Louisa Cummins so I might be able to determine what happened to her. I have located her mother and four sisters who all moved to Oregon in 1876, but have been unable to find anything on Louisa yet. I now believe that she may have died before 1900, but don't know where the death may have taken place. I suspect it may have been in Douglas County. I also don't yet know whether she ever married. You also helped me a few years ago when I had another question regarding a family in the Jackson county area. I really appreciate all the help you have provided. Thanks again, Ken Tessendorff =========== Anne Billeter wrote: > > Ken Tessendorff sent a query in mid-December, with a list of names he was > interested in, including Louisa J.
