    3. Surnames: Cole, Dean, Johnson, Bolten, Wandry, Bruce Carl Dean Cole, 86, a resident of Independence (Oregon) and a former resident of Dufur (Oregon), died on April 27, 2002 in Dallas (Oregon). He was born April 10, 1914 in Boyd (Oregon) to Clarence and Ellen Cole. He was in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946. After the war, up until 1950 he farmed on his ranch in Dufur. In 1950 he and his wife and a daughter, Cheryl, moved to Ephrata, Washington. He worked for several companies laying pipe and being a cement finisher. They moved back to Dufur and he ranched until January of 1962 when they and another daughter moved to Independence where they bought a ranch and he continued farming. He also worked at Wah Chang from 1962 until his retirement in 1979. He enjoyed his family, gardening, cutting firewood and visiting his friends and neighbors. Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl Dea, Salem (Oregon); and Margie Ann Johnson, Dallas; two grandsons and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; daughter, Carol Jean Cole; sister, Ruth Bolten, Martha Cole, Gladys Wandry and Mary Bruce and brothers Floyd, Cecil, Kenneth and Harold Cole. Graveside vault interment was at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, at Hilltop Cemetery in Independence. Stan Peterson of Monmouth Christian Church officiated. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements were by Farnstrom Mortuary in Independence.
