    1. [OREGON] Help Needed CUMMINS/DOWELL or MCDOWELL
    2. Kenneth Tessendorff
    3. Hello, My 2nd great grandfather, James Cummins, and his third wife had five daughters while living in Calaveras County, CA. His wife, Polly Ann, also had one son from a previous marriage. James deserted Polly Ann and the children in 1867 and moved to Kansas. Polly Ann divorced James and married John Dean a few years later. She then left John and moved to Oregon in 1875 or 1876. Her five daughters and son went with her. Genealogy societies in Douglas and Lane counties have done research for me and provided marriage licenses, death certificates and obits for most of these family members, but I still need more information on one of the daughters, Louisa. Louisa Cummins married in 1881 in Douglas County. According to the marriage license, she married a John Dowell or John McDowell (both names appear on the marriage license and affidavit). I have not been able to find any other information about Louisa. The 1900 census says that Polly Ann had five living children and I know that Louisa's four sisters and her brother all lived well beyond 1900. Therefore I must assume that Louisa died before 1900. The Oregon State Archives has no record of her death and no death certificate was supplied by the genealogical societies that did the research for me. She and her husband may have moved to another county. I have not been able to find any information on a John Dowell or John McDowell that is helpful. Not being that familiar with Oregon research, I am wondering whether anyone can suggest a way to find any to uncover any other information about Louisa (Cummins) Dowell (or McDowell). I would like to know when and where she died and whether she had any children before her death. Thank you for any help you can provide. Ken Tessendorff San Carlos, CA
