    2. Hi Sue in Oklahoma, Have you tried going to _www.google.com_ (http://www.google.com) & typing in "The Bozeman Trail" or "Wagon Train" + John Jacobs", or Bozeman Trail" + "Walla Walla", or "Wagon Train" + 1862" ? Many hits there that may be of help to you. Hope you find what you're looking for! Teresa in Washington State ----- 9/1/2006 5:41:36 P.M. In particular, a wagon train guided by John Jacobs, who started from Soda Springs, just out side of Fort Hall. Does anyone know where I would start looking? thanks, Sue in Oklahoma

    3. Thanks Teresa, your search technique has been helpful. I was simply googling "john jacobs" and didn't get the search results that I did when I used your approach. A lot of what is on the web are sources that I have already looked at. John Jacobs disappears from the historical record in 1865-66. He pops into the record around 1850. Sources say he was an"old mountain man" and fur trader. In 1863 he and John Bozeman forged what became the Bozeman Trail. So, my quest is to find some evidence of his early life and what happened to him in 1866. His daughter(from Flathead wife) was 8 when she accompanied Bozeman and her father in forging the trail. I have some evidence she died in 1865. THis evidence is only one source. Anyway, my thought is to try and find other sources from those who traveled with him when he guided the wagon trains across the trail. I have read the published diaries, which basically say the same thing that is on the net. Thanks for your help, trying a new way of searching has opened new possibilities.
