The Dalles Chronicle April 7, 2002 40 Years Ago, April 7, 1962 Hollis McDonald, newly elected state president of the Oregon Association of Future Farmers of America, was chosen in Portland Friday night along with Jeff Carl of Hubbard (Oregon) as a delegate to the national FFA convention in Kansas City. Carl is vice president of the state organization. Wishram (Washington) School Superintendent Claude Case has announced his resignation effective at the close of the present school year. He has accepted an appointment as superintendent at La Center, Washington. 60 Years Ago, April 7, 1942 Charles L. Phipps, a student of law at the University of Oregon, has been appointed student editor of the Oregon Law Review, a quarterly publication used by members of the bar association and the law school. He will be graduating from the law school on May 31. 80 Years Ago, April 7, 1922 The removal of the O.W.R. & N. company's large tie plant from Wyeth (Oregon) was an announcement received with great enthusiasm at a luncheon at Hotel Dalles this afternoon. J.P. O'Brien, general manager of the company, officially stated that the company would move its tie plant to this city, work to start in about 30 days bringing an added annual payroll from $135,000 to $150,000. 100 Years Ago, April 7, 1902 Yesterday morning Reverend J. Denney arrived in the city from Bakeoven (Oregon) having ridden all night for the purpose of securing a casket for Mrs. Fannie Buzan, wife of Jerome Buzan, who died at Bakeoven Saturday of la grippe. She leaves a husband and five children, four boys and a girl. The funeral will take place there today. At the close of the Baptist Sunday School yesterday morning, three of the pupils --Irene Martin, Alice Johns and Thodosia Thomas --were baptized. The rostrum surrounding the baptistery had been beautifully decorated with ferns, evergreens and flowers, and the ceremony was most impressive.
