The Dalles Chronicle, June 2, 2002 A number of guessers had an easy time with last week's mystery photo (above) recognizing it as the legendary Umatilla House near the Columbia (river), visited in the late 1800's by such notables as Ulysses S. Grant. Among the correct guessers were Vera Haney, Bruce Harris, Steve Wray, Pat Arthur, Doug Reid, Kathy Shebley, Lena Wilcox and Terray Harmon, who said he had one of the Umatilla House's barstools in his living room. Sherry Waddington was able to up the ante, mentioning she bought the former house of Joseph G. Wilson in 1979, with a bannister, bride's mirror and deck chairs from the fabled hostelry.
