Surnames: Weeks, McNaughtman, Hunt, Beer, Biggs, Dowdell, Bartusek, Renning Grace Margaret Weeks, 90, a long-time resident of The Dalles, died at the local hospital after the sudden onset of illness, on Friday, June 7, 2002. She was born April 22, 1912, on a farm at Barton, North Dakota, the third of five children to Harry Harold and Katherine (McNaughtman) Hunt. She spent most of her early life in Willow City, North Dakota, and then later moved to Minot, where she met her future husband, James J. Weeks, who was a member of Minot Daily News Staff. They were married on October 14, 1934, in Minot, North Dakota. She spent many years in retail trades, beginning with Buttrey's in Minot and continued with the Hecht Company in Washington, D.C., where the family took up residence in 1936. In the early 1940's, they moved to St. Louis, Missouri and in 1944 decided to make The Dalles their home. She enjoyed sales, especially because of the broadening circle of acquaintances it afforded, beginning with Safeway and including Ninth Street Supermarket and Mauser's Home Center. She served as a volunteer at the Mid-Columbia Medical Center for many years and most recently shared duty as a docent for the Rorick House with the Wasco County Historical Society. She was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational. Surviving are her husband of almost 68 years, James J. Weeks; two sons, Kenneth, Portland and James Jr., The Dalles; a daughter, Mary Jane (Mrs. Scott) Beer; The Dalles; three grandchildren, Suzanne and Jody Beer, The Dalles and Stephanie Biggs, Spokane, Washington; a brother, William Hunt and his wife, Benora, Willows, California; a sister, Myrtle Dowdell and her husband, E.D., Long Beach, California; sister-in-law, Frances Bartusek, Kingman, Arizona and Margaret Renning, Fresno, California; and nieces and nephews. A sister, Edith and a brother, Robert, preceded her in death. A commemorative service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 12, at the United Church of Christ Congregational with Pastor Karl Vercouteren officiating. Private interment will be held at The Dalles Parklawn Cemetery with arrangements in care of Smith Callaway Chapel. Remembrances may be made to: Home At Last Animal Friends, P.O.
