A really interesting article. I didn't realize the Columbia ever froze over, although I can remember my early years in Josephine county when we had snow 2-3 feet deep. None of this happens anymore. Darlene
In the early 1950's or late 1940's,the Columbia would freeze over. When it broke loose it could cause lots of damage downriver. The Town of Vanport near Portland was wiped out by the ice at one time. Terrible mess.
