    3. In doing a search at rootsweb for the name of my Greatgrandfather, William Edgar Leach, one record that came up was his WWI draft registration record. It clearly was him, as the name and birth date were the exact same as our Family Bible. It did not state were he was born, due to the fact that those waiting to register on the LAST day required by law didn't have to state that. What concerned me is WHY did he go to Boundary County, Idaho to register that day? I know that he lived in La Grande, Oregon at that time. The record states that you don't have to neccessarily live in Boundary County to have registered there that day, but that there is some "tie" to Boundary County, Idaho. WHAT is that TIE? Was Boundary County, ID the county seat for La Grande (Union Co.) at some previous point, and that is the reason? I appreciate any comments, or advice. Lillian Kathleen Martin.

    3. Lilly, Boundary County, Idaho is on the Canadian border, 300 miles or more by road from La Grande. This would not have been a casual trip, and certainly not a day trip. There have never been any sorts of governmental connections between the two areas. Your g-grandfather must have either been temporarily working or residing in that area of extreme northern Idaho or northeastern Washington, or perhaps he was on an extended visit to relatives in that area. Good luck, Kevin Fraley ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lilly" <malik@scs-net.org> To: <OREGON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, March 08, 2002 12:51 AM Subject: [OREGON] WWI draft registration > In doing a search at rootsweb for the name of my Greatgrandfather, William Edgar Leach, one record that came up was his WWI draft registration record.
